Cincinnati Women's Advocacy Action Network

The Cincinnati Women’s Advocacy Action Network (WAAN) is made up of interested members of the Council of Christian Communions and Church Women United who have partnered with the Children’s Defense Fund of Ohio.  The Cincinnati WAAN will focus on educating the public about the juvenile justice system and keeping youth out of that system.

Six networks, including the Cincinnati WAAN, have been established in major cities throughout Ohio.  WAAN embodies a statewide group of women who possess a heart-felt desire to provide a strong and effective voice for the children of Ohio who cannot lobby or speak for themselves.  This network of interfaith advocates and professional women is particularly concerned about the needs of poor and minority children and families.  The Children’s Defense Fund’s “Leave No Child Behind” mission is to ensure every child a Health Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.

The Cincinnati WAAN welcomes women from Church Women United, the Council of Christian Communions and other interested persons to participate on any of the four committees: Public Awareness, Advocacy, Faith-Based & Legislative, and Juvenile Justice.

For more information, and to attend and participate in the program, events or workshops, contact Mary Kercherval Short at (513) 794-0359.
